However I do prefer good ol CentOS Here is my tips to speeding things up on a Mac though, I run it all the time on mine and never have issues. Mutagen, have too much complexity to it contributing to numerous possible failure points. Its not a priority as guys before have also referred in the context of corporate practices. IDE indexing over a network file system has its own set of problems. However, this has the issue that youll need to have another container to expose the files to your host and your development experience will be slower, i.e. NFS achieves its performance gain in a development scenario by caching file metadata, e.g.Īnother option is to have your project live directly in a volume that resides in the docker vm. However, as with any two way sync, conflicts can occur, particularly when doing a git checkout or package manager install.

How much slower is Docker for Mac in your case Continue this thread level 1 2 points 1 year ago I assume youre using a scripting language such as JavaScript, PHP or Ruby File IO between MacWindows and the Moby Linux virtual machine is a huge bottleneck.Īs mentioned in the comments below, docker-sync works great from a performance point of view as it copies files between the host and a volume in the VM. Maybe bare naked basic 2015 rMBP with only 8 gigs of RAM is the issue Though it has plenty of free RAM, its mostly killing CPUs. However, 100x slower is not something I have noticed and I run a pretty large Java apps.ĭo you have more info on the config you are running How much memory is allocated for VM, processors One thing that does a lot of bad things is having volumes in a location that is being synced with Icloud. On Mac it spins up a virtual machine and runs containers in it so it will be a bit slower than in Linux. Its hell:((( Continue this thread level 1 5 points 1 year ago Docker runs natively only on Linux. They must overlap, how do they manage Even if the project is small and fast in my case its still 20ms vs 0,5s load time:((( With bigger stuff its more like 200ms and 4-5s per refresh and blazing fans because of 100 CPU consumption. On Mac is running a VM ( xhyve i think), running a stripped down Linux. Is there a plan of Docker native for MacWindows or maybe is Apple already working on some workaround Thanks for any kind of help and sorry if my question is not up to standards, Im a simple developer and I understand Docker but do not have deep knowledge about it. I also understand the issue with kernel and syncing files but is there any hope anywhere on the horizon Because in my case Ill have to drop Mac completely, its been like this for over 3 years in my case now and its only getting worse as my project grows and new updates give no performance boost whatsoever.

Without it its not 20 but more like 100x times slower and almost unusable:( I know many devs who use Macs and I cant figure it out why could be Docker so painfully slow on Mac its almost unusable, do all those people run to Ubuntu I know there are also small aps and Docker might be much faster with those but still. Is there any way to speed things up I use:cached flags on volumes. It works like a charm on all kinds of Linuxes but its roughly 20 to 50x times slower on Mac (Im using Docker for Mac as Im not really great with Docker and not devops for sure).
